Infuse sugar with THC to make cannasugar

Let’s learn how to make cannasugar, or sugar infused with THC. Did you know you can take your cannabis edibles up a notch by using marijuana infused sugar instead of regular sugar? In this article, we will explain how to make pot sugar using two simple ingredients –cannabis tincture and sugar. Cannasugar is shelf-stable and can also be made with sugar-free alternatives. If you want to make super-potent edibles, use both cannabutter and cannasugar.

What is cannasugar?

Cannasugar is sugar that has been infused with cannabis. Weed sugar can be added to any dish that calls for sugar.

How to make cannasugar

If you are trying to figure out how to infuse sugar with THC, there is a secret trick: cannabis tincture. To make cannasugar, you need a cannabis tincture because you cannot infuse sugar with butter, oil, or any other form of fat. If you have a weed tincture from the dispensary, you can use that, or you can try our homemade Green Dragon Tincture QWET (quick wash extraction technique) Tincture recipe. You cannot make cannasugar with butter or oil.

Sugar: Traditional cannasugar recipes use white, granulated sugar. However, many alternative sweeteners can also be used to modify cannasugar. You can successfully infuse using:

  • Brown Sugar
  • Cane sugar
  • Coconut sugar
  • Erythritol
  • Monk Fruit Sweetener
  • Turbinado Sugar

Avoid using powdered artificial sweeteners like Splenda. The popular consensus is that powdery consistencies are not a good alternative for cannasugar.

How to infuse sugar with THC to make cannasugar

To infuse sugar with THC, collect the following ingredients and materials:

  • 3 grams of decarboxylated cannabis
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 1 cup of grain alcohol
  • Glass jar
  • Cheesecloth

Here is a step-by-step guide to make delicious cannasugar:

Step 1: Preheat oven to 200°F. Add the 3 grams of decarbed cannabis to the glass jar. Pour the alcohol into the glass carefully and secure the lid. Let it sit for about 30 minutes, shaking periodically.

Step 2: Using a cheesecloth, strain the mixture to separate the cannabis flowers. Discard flowers after straining.

Step 3: Stir the sugar into the strained liquid and pour it into a glass baking dish. Next, place the mixture inside the preheated oven.

Step 4: Occasionally stir the mixture until the alcohol evaporates, then remove it from the oven. You can also place the liquid mixture in a pie plate on the stove on low heat until all the alcohol has evaporated.

Step 5: After the sugar cools, break up any large pieces and place the cannasugar in an air-tight container.

Approximately 48 teaspoons of sugar are in one cup. The potency of your weed sugar depends on the level of THC in the marijuana. You should start with a micro-dose or a half teaspoon of weed sugar to see how it affects you. You can always add more or less the next time, depending on how you feel.

How to store THC sugar

Keeping homemade THC sugar dry is crucial for shelf stability. Store in an air-tight mason jar or a properly sealed Ziplock bag.
