How to make weed wax at home.

In this article, we will learn how to make THC wax. Making weed wax can seem like a daunting task, but it’s easy to make at home, it’s more potent than flower, and THC wax can last you much longer than flower due to the concentration of THC. In this article, we’ll explain how to make weed wax, also known as cannabis wax. Some other common terms for weed wax are budder or crumble, which describe the texture of the concentrate.

Concentrates Versus Wax

What is THC wax? THC wax, crumble and budder generally refers to a type of cannabis concentrate that has an orange or yellow tint and a waxy texture. THC wax is created by agitating the cannabis oil during the extraction process, causing it to crystalize and form a waxy texture. Most people like to use wax to take dabs. Before we get into making cannabis wax, let’s clarify the difference between THC wax and other concentrates.

Bubble Hash This type of resin looks more like kief and is made by pulling out trichomes with ice and a mesh screen and then forming a paste.

Shatter Shatter is often translucent and orange or gold in color. Made with solvents, this brittle substance is often used to take dabs.

Distillate Distillates are refined cannabinoid extracts that are free from any scent, oil, or taste.

Rosin Rosin is the product that emerges when you put your cannabis under high temperatures and pressure. Rosin is solventless, meaning that no chemicals are used in production which makes it easier and more accessible to make for the average home grower. (Want to learn how to make rosin at home?)

How to Make Weed Wax

Now let’s learn how to make weed wax. Weed wax is typically made from butanehash oil or BHO. Butane is used as a solvent to extract the most terpenes and cannabinoids from cannabis. However, butane is a dangerous substance, and it is dangerous to use butane to make weed oil at home. Large-scale cannabis extraction factories make weed wax with a closed-loop system in which cannabis is pushed into a tube with butane and heated to extract the resin. After going through several rounds of heat, moisture, and vacuum purging, the BHO turns into a gooey weed wax. The THC wax is left to cool and harden into the sticky weed wax we all know and love. Since butane is extremely flammable, we recommend using another solvent like alcohol to make weed wax at home. There are a few different ways you can start making cannabis wax, but this method is the easiest.

Recipe for How to Make THC Wax

  1. Crumble your weed into small bits and place it in the small mason jar.
  2. Dry the weed at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for twenty minutes.
  3. After the cannabis is dry to the touch and crisp, place in inside with the bottle of alcohol for 4-5 hours depending on the temp of your freezer.
  4. After you take it out, pour around an inch or a tad more of cold alcohol and swish around for twenty minutes, making sure that all cannabis is being covered.
  5. Set it out to chill for 1.5 to 2 hours.
  6. Pour out the mix of cannabis onto the mesh and let the alcohol and (almost) wax strain through. Squeeze any chunks to get the most wax into the end product.
