Cannabis, CBD and Dizziness
Cannabis users can experience a range of side effects. One of the side effects reported by users is a feeling of dizziness. What causes this to happen? And is there anything you can do about it?
What we know about Cannabis, CBD and Dizziness
Dizziness is a sensation or feeling caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure. Users that have felt dizzy while using cannabis or CBD have experienced feelings of weakness, confusion, nausea and lightheadedness. THC, one of the primary cannabinoids found in cannabis, might cause a decrease in blood pressure, causing some users to feel dizzy. In addition, CBD also lowers blood pressure which can contribute to becoming dizzy, but this feeling often lasts momentarily.
While this feeling is not uncommon among even the most frequent cannabis or CBD users, it’s important to make sure your drop in blood pressure is not associated with an underlying condition, in which case it’s best to consult your doctor for advice.
Another cited effect of THC is heightened sensory perception. It is suspected that enhanced senses make it more challenging for our brains to keep our bodies balanced. This lack of balance could be another cause of feeling dizzy.
What can you do to avoid or diminish feelings of dizziness?
Given the lack of rigorous scientific research on the effects and side effects of cannabis, it’s hard to know what to do.
You can try a different product. While some users have noted that products containing less THC and more CBD create fewer and less intense feelings of dizziness, others rely on lowering the overall amount they consume. Other consumers have noted it’s a function of the strain, ingestion, or a factor that’s out of their control, such as their unique biochemistry.
Still, others suggest taking your cannabis with another food or drink that is known to increase blood pressure. Caffeine, for example. But that is an unproven technique. Consult with your doctor prior to using cannabis or CBD, and always start with a small dose.
So, what can you do to understand whether there’s a product, dose, cannabinoid, or delivery method out there that will help you avoid feelings of dizziness?
